Two things you can do today:
For the weekends in August upto Labor Day, The SOS Campaign held "I ♥ State Parks" weekends of action to bring state park supporters together – in state parks, around their communities, and online.
Due to the recent budget cuts to the Department of Park and Recreation—plus the continuing state furloughs and other park-related budget reductions—100 state parks are estimated to close after Labor Day. The "I ♥ State Parks" weekends of action encouraged Californians to come out in force and show their support for state parks and opposition to park closures.
What happened at the "I ♥ State Parks" events?
On these weekends, park supporters came out to state parks (or even some non-park locations) to show their support for our parks, by signing messages on green hearts that collected and will share with policy leaders after Labor Day.
Volunteers throughout the state hosted events, helping the Foundation to gather 20,000 green hearts with personalized messages from park supporters. These hearts will be shared with policy makers in the near future.
